Kaselehlie maingko! Hello everybody!

Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if you all have seen the pictures I've been posting on Facebook but just in case you missed it I will be posting them on here to better explain the stories behind these pictures. Sorry that I'm starting this blog a little late but I'll be sure to keep it updated weekly from now on.

Ok, so for those who don't already know I am on a 9 month mission trip to work as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Pohnpei, Micronesia. Through the P.U.C. World Missions Program I have been placed into the loving care of the Schroer Family on the island. I've only been in Pohnpei for about a week and John and Kat Schroer have already made me feel more like family. The amount of passion they have towards the mission field in Pohnpei is really inspiring.

I currently live in this three-story house called the MAHI International Hospitality Center.
Home for the next 9 months

The Schroer Family lives on the 3rd floor and my roommate Catherine and I live on the very first floor. Our apartment is very homey and consists of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. Catherine and I are extremely blessed to have such a comfortable place to live. Here is our living room, bedroom and bathroom.

Not only is our house very cozy but the view from the house is extremely beautiful! We are surrounded by coconut, papaya, banana, sour sap, pineapple, avocado, star fruit, mango, calamansi, mangosteen, and guava trees.

And now to introduce you to my roommate!

Catherine and I in the Back of Johns Pick Up Truck

This girl right here is none other than my fabulous new roommate Catherine Tambunan! She is planning on working as a nurse in the Pohnpei hospital until mid December of this year. She's hilarious and a great Indonesian cook! Catherine is always telling me about the places I need to see and food I need to eat in Indonesia, and someday I hope I will. She has really helped me adjust to island living. We have a pact between us that if she gets rid of the big spiders and bugs, I'll chase the lizards/geckos out from our apartment. Overall, I'm really blessed to have such a caring roommate.

So now that you have met my new roommate and seen my living conditions I'll be sure to post more about my adventures on the island and the work that I'm doing here.

Until next time!
Ruthie Holmes
